Peachtree Corners, GA, June 9, 2021 – The Civil Nuclear Trade Advisory Committee (CINTAC) has announced the appointment of Mike McMahon as a representative from NAC International and of manufacturing and service companies in the U.S. nuclear energy sector. Committee members will provide advice to the U.S. Commerce Secretary on the development and administration of programs and policies to expand U.S. nuclear exports.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission recently approved an amendment to NAC’s MAGNASTOR Certificate of Compliance (CoC) which further expedites used fuel loading at decommissioning sites. Effective Dec. 7, 2020, the amendment supports NAC in developing efficient fuel-specific loading patterns, optimally combining older/cooler with newer/hotter assemblies in the storage canister. Additional hardware options to effectively tailor loading approaches for challenging plant layouts and situations are also included in the amendment.
Beginning in 2016, NAC cooperated with U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Atomic Energy of Canada, Ltd (AECL) to transport 115 shipments of highly enriched uranium (HEU) liquid from the Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario, Canada to the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina.
NAC International (NAC) held its annual Spent Fuel Academy training seminar Feb. 2-4, 2021 marking the first time the seminar was fully virtual. Last year NAC successfully relaunched the training seminar in response to renewed interest and inquiries from technical and quality professionals in the industry.
NAC LPT launched its new website on January 12 to match the company’s mission of offering world-class Logistics, Packing, and Transportation services.
Tackling the challenges of decommissioning a nuclear plant: This was the principal issue addressed by an Oct. 29 expert panel led by NAC President and CEO Kent Cole at the Reuters Decommissioning and Used Fuel and Strategy virtual conference. The panel discussion, titled The Future of Decommissioning: The Utility Perspective, was one of the event’s opening sessions.
