Peachtree Corners, GA — NAC International Inc. (NAC) recently successfully completed the first multiple cask shipment of its OPTIMUS®-L Type B packaging systems in the United States, safely transporting low-level radioactive waste from a U.S. nuclear research facility to a radioactive waste facility for disposal.

NAC’s versatile OPTIMUS-L packaging is easy to maintain and operate, making it an ideal instrument to provide a transportation solution to facilitate the cost-effective disposal of a wide variety of low-level and intermediate level radioactive materials. By providing an economical transportation solution, OPTIMUS-L enables research reactors and other nuclear research facilities to reduce risk and liabilities by disposing of accumulated wastes being stored on-site, thus freeing up needed workspace to support their primary science and technology missions.

“NAC is pleased to provide transportation services to nuclear research facilities using our versatile OPTIMUS-L packaging,” said Mike McMahon, NAC’s Vice President of Transportation and Strategic Projects. “These systems were designed to optimize versatility and cost-effectiveness for transporting a wide range of waste with fissile material contents, making them an ideal solution to transport the broad variety of waste forms generated by research facilities.”
