The incident occurred while unloading a truck and was outside the radiological controlled area, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The following is a statement from Kent Cole, president and CEO of NAC:

“NAC extends its most sincere condolences to Shawn's family, friends, and colleagues. This is a terrible tragedy and appropriate reviews are going on. It would be premature to make any further comment pending the results of those reviews.”
