In August 2023, a team of Hitachi Zosen (HZ) and NAC International team members toured the Fukushima Daiichi site to better understand areas in which HZ/NAC can provide TEPCO support for the continued decontamination and decommissioning efforts at the site.  The main purpose of the trip was to investigate and discuss the various challenges that TEPCO has with the spent fuel at the site.

TEPCO graciously extended an invitation, guided the HZ/NAC team around the various locations at the site, communicated about the progress achieved on the decontamination and decommissioning activities, and described the near-term and longer-term activities planned for the site and local area.

“By having the opportunity to walk the site and see firsthand the significant work performed to date and witness the magnitude of tasks that lie ahead, we gained further appreciation of TEPCO’s commitment to completing the decontamination and decommissioning at the Fukushima Daiichi site. The professionalism and critical attention to detail of the TEPCO team we met with is further indication of that commitment,” said George Carver, NAC Vice President of Engineering and Support Services.

HZ/NAC wishes to thank TEPCO for the tremendous opportunity to witness firsthand the progress and ongoing activities at Fukushima Daiichi.
