NAC has an extensive licensing experience that speaks for itself: ten major NRC licensed systems, including the first high-capacity system licensed for storage and transport (NAC-STC), the first multipurpose (storage and transport) canister based system fully approved by the NRC (NAC-MPC), and more than 100 license amendments. NAC frequently goes before the NRC to amend the licenses of its transport and storage fleet for design updates and licensed content expansion. NAC personnel have hundreds of man-years of cask design, operation, and NRC licensing experience.
NAC has performed extensive, project-critical licensing activities for three multipurpose spent fuel canister systems, the NAC-UMS®, the NAC-MPC, and the MAGNASTOR® System. The NAC-MPC system is an example of the accomplishment of such project-critical, integrated licensing. NAC first licensed the NAC-STC metal cask for both transport and storage of spent fuel, the first such achievement in the U. S. for modern commercial spent fuel. Then, NAC began its development of the NAC-MPC in 1996, which relies upon the certified NAC-STC cask for transport. In approximately three years, NAC's MPC system became the first dual purpose system to receive full NRC certification.
NAC’s extensive licensing experience is summarized in the following table:
